Student Government announced on Sept. 23 that they would be restricting the weekday hours of the free printing lab to 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. from the original hours of 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. as well as removing weekend hours completely.

SG made the announcement on Facebook, explaining the new hours will be in place until they resolve the issue of several students misusing the lab by printing thousands of pages and removing paper from the machine.  The post directs students who have comments or concerns to contact Student Advocate Ryan Hennessy at [email protected].

The Spinnaker attempted to contact SG Director of Communications Gracie Lopresti regarding the subject, but was told to wait until tomorrow’s Press Conference. Spinnaker then asked the student assistant at the front desk outside Club Alliance if she knew anything about the new hour restrictions and was then again referred to Lopresti.

Lopresti emailed the following statement:

“Unfortunately, we have had a couple of students abuse the free print lab. These few students came into the lab late at night and printed thousands of pages. Due to the actions of these students, we are temporarily changing the free print lab hours to 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., and it will be closed on weekends. We have posted signs in the Club Commons area to keep students updated.  We are working on installing software to limit the abuse of the system, and upon doing so we should be able to extend the hours of the lab again.”
