The UNF men’s soccer team won in the semifinal round of the Atlantic Sun Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament, beating Lipscomb 2-1 in double overtime on Nov. 7. With their win and a loss by Florida Gulf Coast, the Ospreys will host the conference championship game.

UNF (9-6-1 overall, 4-0-1 A-Sun) hosted the Lipscomb Bisons (6-10-1, 3-2-0 A-Sun) to kick off the conference tournament’s first round. The Ospreys thumped the Bisons 3-0 earlier this season in Nashville, Tennessee on Oct. 3, but UNF found themselves down early against Lipscomb in Saturday’s match.

Lipscomb drew first blood when redshirt senior forward Matt Kerridge netted the first goal of the match at 18 minutes. The Ospreys struck back when senior forward Alex Morrell netted a goal at 37 minutes just before halftime.

Morrell’s goal would be the last in regulation thanks to a key save by UNF senior keeper Kyle Nasta late in the second half. It wasn’t until the second overtime that UNF senior forward Helge Pietschmann scored the game winning goal.

Pietschmann took a penalty kick at 109 minutes which reflected off the hands of Lipscomb keeper Micah Bledsoe. Pietschmann dove at the blocked ball with a header to score and end the game at 2-1.

The win sends the Ospreys to the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship game to face off against USC Upstate (7-6-1 overall, 1-3-1 A-Sun) on Nov. 14 at Hodges Stadium.
