The North Florida women’s basketball team (6-17 overall, 2-6 A-Sun) traveled to Fort Myers to face conference rival Florida Gulf Coast (20-4 overall, 8-0 A-Sun) only to come away with a 75-50 loss on Feb 6.

FGCU outscored the Ospreys 24-8 in a dismal start for North Florida. The Ospreys scored an additional 12 points in the second quarter, but the Eagles outscored them by one for a total 13 points to enter halftime with a  20-37 lead.

The second half brought the Ospreys better results. The Ospreys were outscored by 6 points in the third quarter, but managed to play a more even fourth quarter matching the Eagle’s 16 points.

Junior point guard Claire Ioannidis and sophomore guard Sierra Shepherd lead the Ospreys in scoring with 13 points each. However, their efforts weren’t enough to bring home the win for North Florida.

The game marked the Osprey’s second loss against Florida Gulf Coast for the season. North Florida will return home for their next conference game against Stetson (14-8 overall, 5-3 A-Sun) on Feb 10.
