Update: Alumni Drive was fully reopened later on Tuesday evening. Spinnaker is working to obtain reports from the accident to bring you more information.
According to University of North Florida Police, at about 4:45 p.m. two vehicles collided at the intersection of Kernan Boulevard and Alumni Drive. Both vehicles rolled over and landed in the ditch west of Alumni Drive.

According to witnesses, a white BMW was traveling at a high rate of speed, appearing to race another vehicle down Kernan Blvd toward Butler Blvd. The white BMW lost control just in front of the entrance to UNF and collided with a white Chevy Malibu waiting to make the turn to exit campus, sending it into the air and rolling over into the ditch west of Alumni Drive.

The BMW has a UNF parking decal on its rear window.

Both drivers were transported to the hospital with injuries, and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit was on standby to come to the scene. They were called off once the patients’ conditions improved.

Alumni Drive was closed to all traffic south of the Osprey Crossings, but has since reopened to traffic.
