Football and flicks: What to watch on Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a day known for the food — but the television on this day is just as good. Here’s a guide to what to watch, whether it’s football, a classic movie, or a good old-fashioned parade.

Here are the Thanksgiving football games:

  • 12:30 p.m Vikings v. Lions, CBS
  • 4:30 p.m. Redskins v. Cowboys, FOX
  • 8:30 p.m. Steelers v. Colts, NBC

If you don’t want to watch football all Turkey Day, check out some of these suggestions.

What is Thanksgiving without parades before you eat your turkey?

America’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is on channel 4, WJXT. You can watch the parade live from Detroit from 9 a.m to noon. This is the 90th installment, there will be floats, marching bands and more.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is live from 9 a.m to noon on NBC. Many special guest will be in Manhattan for the 90th annual holiday gathering.

The Thanksgiving Day Parade on CBS starts at 9 a.m. and ends at noon. Sting and Miranda Lambert will perform, in addition to some broadway acts.

The McDonald’s Thanksgiving Parade, which is held in Chicago on State Street will be on WGN from 9 a.m to noon.

During the Vikings v. Lions 12:30 game, you can check out some of these movies instead.

  • Shrek on Cartoon Network from 12-2 p.m.
  • Back to the Future will be on TNT from 12:30-3 p.m.
  • Jurassic Park (all of the movies) from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Nutty Professor is on BET from 12:50-3:25 p.m., and Nutty Professor II: The Klumps comes on right after from 3:25-6 p.m.

The Redskins v. Cowboys starts 4:30, but here are some movies to watch.

  • Kung Fu Panda 2 is on FX from 5-7 p.m.
  • Forrest Gump is on 5-8 p.m. on E!
  • Mr. & Mrs. Smith is on Lifetime 3-6 p.m.
  • Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat on Cartoon Network 4-6 p.m.

The last game of the night starts at 8:30 when the Steelers take on the Colts, but there will still be plenty of movies on.

  • Toy Story 2 on Free 8:20-10:30 p.m.
  • Step Brothers on Lifetime 8-10:02 p.m.
  • The Parent Trap on Nickelodeon 8-11 p.m.
  • Clueless is on VH1 from 7-9 p.m.

If you’re a sports lover but just don’t care for football check out the AdvoCare Invitational on ESPN2. Two teams that the Ospreys Men’s Basketball face during the season will be playing.

  • Stanford will face Miami during the quarterfinals at 2:30-5 p.m., and neither has lost a game yet.  
  • Seton Hall will then face Florida at 8:30-11 p.m., both of these are undefeated.

And if you want to binge watch some marathons to drown out the football all day, check out some of these.

  • Blue Bloods on Ion
  • Flip or Flop on HGTV
  • America’s Funniest Home Videos on WGN
  • The Wayans Bros. on MTV
