The man accused of coordinating the murder of a UNF employee from his jail cell has been charged with attempted escape from jail and criminal mischief, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Court records show McCray caused hundreds of dollars in damage.

The new charges were added to Jecorian Mccray’s Duval County Jail records just before 1 a.m. on Jan. 26. McCray was already facing burglary and strong armed robbery charges before allegedly organizing the killing of UNF employee Joe Brenton.

Brenton was killed in September just hours before he was set to testify in McCray’s burglary trial.
