Breaking: UNF men’s basketball beats Florida Gulf Coast 68-65 in OT

The Ospreys returned from an unexpected lost to Stetson University to defeat Florida Gulf Coast in overtime.

UNF placed a consistent fight against Florida Gulf Coast, with the Ospreys making 50 percent of their shots in comparison to FGC’s 42 percent. The team stayed on top of the 3-point shooters and player Andy Diaz shot double-double tonight.

Men’s basketball coach Matt Driscoll said, “Our league is just a brutal league … Florida Gulf Coast has always battled, they’ve battled everybody.”

Because UNF lost to Stetson on Thursday, the team does not qualify yet for the A-Sun conference tournament. “Every night is just a war,” Driscoll said.

Player Matt Sauey did not play in the game tonight due to an injury he received in the final minutes of the game against Stetson.

Players Eni Cuka and Jerron Granberry both placed 13 points in the game. Driscoll said, “Our seniors really stepped up and made some great plays.”

They have not solidified a conference bid yet, but still have a chance of making the tournament.
