Catch the Cache, no cash needed

Whether you’ve lived here all your life or you’re just settling in, Jacksonville fills itself with new places to explore. As the largest city area-wise in the contiguous U.S., Jacksonville offers 841 square miles of potential adventure.

But before you slump further into that couch cushion overwhelmed, check out the treasure hunt we’ve put together for you.

Geocaching is a high-tech game of hide and seek played all over the world. The “hidden treasures,” or geocaches, are located using a GPS device.

The Spinnaker has hidden four geocaches in Jacksonville for you to find. All you have to do is plug the coordinates into a GPS or cell phone with GPS capabilities and navigate your way to the designated area. Once there, it’s time to hunt. The boxes may be partially buried, hidden in bushes or slipped under walkways.

Geocaching is a great way to explore new places, and the journey to get there is half the fun. Inside the boxes are some pretty sweet treasures, but if you take something from the box, be sure to replace it with something equally awesome for future finders. We gave you the locations of our four boxes, but if you find geocaching is your thing, create a free account at geocaching.com for hundreds of coordinates around Jacksonville and thousands around the world.

Don’t have a GPS or a GPS-enabled phone? You can rent one for free at Eco-Adventure with a UNF ID.
