The community is mourning the loss of one gracious volunteer.
After having health complications, James “Jimmy” Biggers passed away on April 9, 2017.
Biggers served as the chief engineer for News4Jax, or Channel 4 News, for many years before retiring and lending a helping hand elsewhere.
Wanting to give back, Biggers made his way to Spinnaker as a volunteer helping to build the television studio.
“When I came to UNF to work, I was not surprised to learn that Jimmy dedicated his volunteer time to helping students in broadcasting,” said Maureen Baker, Spinnaker Media Director Advisor and past co-worker.
Light by light, chair by chair, Biggers put his time and effort into helping Spinnaker, asking for nothing in return.
Biggers was honored by Spinnaker with a plaque as a thank you for all of his hard work.
Volunteers are great resources to the community as the better not only themselves, but also the people who they help.
“We are really quite lucky to have wonderful volunteers like Jimmy who care so very much for UNF and its students,” said Baker.
Described as a “great leader with [a] vision,” by Baker, there is no doubt that the work Biggers did will live on forever at Spinnaker.
