According to an email from Joshua Merchant, Vice President for University Development and Alumni Engagement, the confusion about the location of the meeting was due to an error by his assistant.

“She ‘simply overlooked’ the location change when she moved the dates on the public calendar,” said Merchant.

To comply with Sunshine Law, the Foundation Board will hold another meeting via conference call to re-vote on every issue that was originally voted on at the May 27 meeting.

Public notice will be placed on the UNF Calendar and on the UNF Foundation Board website, according to Merchant.

On May 27, UNF’s Foundation Board met for the fourth quarter of the year. Both the master calendar and the board’s calendar say the meeting was at the River Club–the top floor of the Wells Fargo building downtown.

However, the meeting was held at the Osprey Clubhouse.

According to Florida’s Sunshine Law, Chapter 286.011, all meetings of boards of any state agency or authority must be public, and the commission must provide reasonable notice of all meetings. That includes the location.

Spinnaker contacted Patricia Madrid, administrative assistant, and Kate McClung, assistant director of UNF Annual Giving, who provided several locations for the meeting such as Deerwood Country Club, Osprey Commons and the River Club.

By the time Spinnaker found out where the meeting was actually located, it was over.

Spinnaker requested the minutes of the meeting from Madrid the day of the meeting, listed as the contact on the event page from UNF’s master calendar, but has yet to receive them. Joshua Merchant, executive director of the board, said in an email that the minutes usually take a week or two to be finalized.

Spinnaker will update with more information as it becomes available.
