Game of the Week: UNF takes on Citadel in A-Sun’s highlight

UNF women’s soccer team will host the Hampton Inn Ponte Vedra Showcase at UNF for their second hosted tournament this season.

UNF plays their first game of the tournament against Mississippi State Sept. 18 and faces The Citadel Sept. 20. This will be the first time that UNF will play either one of these teams.

Ospreys senior forward Katelin Swift leads the team with five goals and two assists in seven games and was named the Atlantic Sun Conference’s player of the week earlier this season.

The Ospreys (2-4-1) will face an undefeated Mississippi State (6-0), which has outscored their opponents 11-4 so far this season. The 6-0 start matches the best start in their school’s history.

UNF’s will take on The Citadel Sept. 20 in the A-Sun’s Game of the Week.

After winning their first two games of the season and an impressive 14-0 win in their first game, The Citadel (2-3) has dropped their last three straight games. The Citadel is led by forward junior Nicole Martinoli with 5 goals out of 11 shots, 3 assists and 13 points.

Conference rivals Florida Gulf Coast (4-2-1) will be participating in the tournament as well, but UNF will not be playing against them. The Eagles head into the tournament riding a four game winning streak after losing their first two games of the season. All four wins are home victories for them, while going 0-2-1 away.

Since moving into the Division I Atlantic Sun Conference, the Ospreys have been shut out in the two games against the Eagles including a 1-0 loss in 2007 and a lopsided 0-5 loss in 2008.

UNF and Florida Gulf Coast will go head to head Oct. 11 in Fort Meyers for an Atlantic Sun match-up.
