Gators look to bring the swamp to Jacksonville

The Florida Gators and the Georgia Bulldogs rumble the city of Jacksonville once again for the heated rivalry. With tailgating and barbecuing, comes arguing and backing up one’s teams.

The Florida Gators have fallen the past three weeks, leaving Gator fans stunned when Mississippi State took home the victory last week. However, the past three games are behind the “Boys of Old Florida,” and they are hungrier than ever.

Quarterback duo John Brantley and Trey Burton have special treats for the Dawgs come Saturday, in the form of touchdowns. Sure, they haven’t been utilized properly in every game this season, but when they are, they win.

Brantley offers the passing game that the Gators need. However, the true freshman Burton gives them speed and athleticism at the quarterback position. His athleticism was on display this year when he scored six touchdowns in the Gator’s win over Kentucky.

The Gators have only played two upsetting games, first against then ranked No. 1 Alabama and Mississippi State. Florida should have won against LSU, but they still played well. This is the game where Florida shows what it can really do.

The plays that offensive coordinator Steve Addazio called against Mississippi State were dive plays and short routes, which obviously did not work. I see Addazio calling different plays this weekend. That being said, let’s take a look at last year’s game.

A 41-17 win to put the Gators with their 17th win in the last 20 meetings coming from pounding the ball in the heart of the Dawgs. Sure Tim Tebow played, along with other Florida greats, but with Brantley’s passing and Burton’s diversity, the Bulldogs will be guessing all game long.

Comparing the two team, it is obvious that the Gators are going back to Gainesville satisfied with another win against Georgia, inching closer and closer to evening up the overall record between the two.

At the end of the third quarter when all the Gator fans are singing this song, you know it will be over. Here are the lyrics, so get prepared to sing it!

We are the boys from old Florida
F-L-O-R-I-D-A
Where the girls are the fairest,
The boys are the squarest
Of any old state down our way
We are all strong for old Florida
Down where the old Gators play
In all kinds of weather
We’ll all stick together
for F-L-O-R-I-D-A
GO Gators!
