Hurricane Matthew is currently 95 miles southeast of Jacksonville according to an update from the National Weather Service.

Though the hurricane is still on track to severely impact the Jacksonville area, it appears that it will hit the First Coast as a Category 3 storm.

Hurricane Matthew’s path has shifted east, according to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center.

The storm is moving northwest at 12 mph and is expected to have its strongest impact on the Jacksonville area Friday afternoon with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph.

Governor Rick Scott is still preparing for the worst, and has now activated 3,500 members of the National Guard, according to a recent news release.

“While the federal government has just approved our request for a pre-landfall emergency declaration for food, water and tarps, I am asking the President for additional generators and pumps to help with power outages and flooding once the storm hits,” Scott said.

UNF has not been evacuated. Students remaining on campus have been relocated to the Osprey Fountains though much of the Jacksonville area has been mandated to evacuate.
