Intercultural Center for PEACE holds Native American celebration with food, music and stories

The Intercultural Center for PEACE (ICP) hosted a Native American Heritage celebration in the Osprey Plaza on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring traditional dance, food and storytelling.

The ICP served authentic Native American cuisine, and the sound of drums and chanting echoed through the plaza as traditional performers took the stage.

The event featured historians and Native American speakers on campus, and attempted to remind students and other attendees that the original culture of the Americas is not a thing of the past.

“We’re making more people more aware it’s not a dead culture but that it’s still around and that it’s very important,” said Jaden Durity, a sophomore communications major and student assistant at the ICP. “I’ve seen stuff on TV but it’s very incorrect of course.”
