North Florida’s crosstown rival Jacksonville University has reached an agreement to hire Tony Jasick as the next head coach of the Dolphins’ men’s basketball team. He will be officially announced as the Dolphins’ head coach in a press-conference on Thursday, April 10 at 12:15 p.m.

Jasick was the head coach at Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne for the last three years, and before that he was an assistant with IPFW. This past season Jasick led the Mastodons to a school record 25 wins and was recently awarded the Hugh Durham award, which is given annually to the nation’s top Division I coach at a mid-major school.

The award is named after one of the all-time winningest coaches in Division I basketball history. Durham retired from his coaching career in 2005 after eight years of coaching the JU basketball team. He left the program as the winningest head coach in JU history with 106 wins.

Jasick will take over for Cliff Warren. In his nine-year tenure at the helm of the Dolphins’ basketball program, Warren surpassed Durham’s title for the all-time winningest coach in JU history with 126 wins. Warren holds the title of being the longest-tenured coach in the program’s 65-year history.

The Ospreys can expect a renewed resistance from the Dolphins with Jasick taking over the head coaching duties. JU got the guy they wanted. They now have to hope he’s the one to get them back to the top of the A-Sun standings after a disappointing season that saw them lose both River City Rumble games to UNF and finish 7th in the conference.
