Duval County Court Judge Angela M. Cox will be speaking at UNF’s Student Union Ballroom March 7.

Cox was appointed in 2005 by Governor Jeb Bush and is the youngest person ever elected to the bench.

Cox’s talking points are to include: developing the confident leader, becoming a leader people want to follow and refusing to live a life less than your capability.

The event will take place at 6 p.m. in Building 58W, Room 3703 and is free to all students. It is partially funded by the Student Life and Services fee. The Institute for Values, Community and Leadership, a Division of Student Affairs, is sponsoring the event along with the Honors Program, African-American Student Union, Intercultural Center for PEACE and the Women’s Center.

Dr. Dianna Dawood, Outreach Services Coordinator, initially approached Judge Cox about the outreach. Cox has spoken in Dawood’s Introduction to Leadership class several times.

“She comes every semester and has never turned me down in three years, despite her busy schedule,” Dawood said.

Dr. Annabel Brooks, Director of the IVCL, said Dawood initially approached Judge Cox about the outreach.

UNF President John Delaney was the first speaker for the Leadership Bureau event earlier this semester.

Jessica Johnson, the events planning coordinator, said the Leadership Speakers Bureau “is an initiative we’re expanding to the university community. It’s taking the class component, and making it more accessible.”

Johnson said they plan on continuing to attract two speakers for the spring and fall semesters and one for the summer.
