What was originally called an “active shooter situation” at Ohio State University on the morning of Nov. 28 has since been confirmed as a knife attack.

An OSU student crashed his car into pedestrians on the campus, then got out and began slashing them with a butcher’s knife, according to USA Today. The suspect was shot dead at the scene by campus police.

According to ABC News, 11 were hospitalized after the attack, with injuries from stab wounds and crash-related injuries.

The attack was reported as an active shooter situation at 9:56 a.m., when the OSU Emergency Management team tweeted “Active Shooter on campus. Run Hide Fight.”

Students were told to “shelter in place” for a little over an hour after the initial tweet.

At 11:30 a.m., the Emergency Management team reported that the scene was secure, and classes were cancelled for the rest of the day. Classes will resume as scheduled Tuesday, Nov. 29.

The suspect that was shot and killed has been identified as Abdul Razak Ali Artan. The motive is not known at this time.

The response from the OSU Emergency Management team is similar to the one UNF’s Crisis Management team has laid out.

“Our goal is to get messages out as quickly as possible because, in an emergency like that, seconds count and we know it,” Sharon Ashton, Vice President of Public Relations told Spinnaker.

The Lantern, Ohio State’s student media, is continuing coverage of the situation. Student accounts of the scene can be found here.
