Osprey Productions and the LGBT Resource Center once again teamed up to bring a drag show to campus. Hosted on what proved to be an interesting election night, Queens from the Parliament House in Orlando, Puerto Rico, and Jacksonville’s Hamburger Mary came to the Student Union ballrooms to give a near-full house a fun time.

The drag show has been a UNF tradition since the late 1990s, as an event from the Pride Club. When Osprey Productions started hosting the show, the LGBT resource center chose to co-sponsor it to honor the legacy of the club, according to Kaitlin Legg, Director of the LGBT Resource Center. She said the drag show was important to the center because it can be used to provide a “visible, open, and safe community for LGBT people and non-LGBT people alike.”

Angel Kalafatis is the coordinator of the LGBT mentor program, Club Can-do. She said drag shows can be inviting for everyone, allowing for a light-hearted, open dialogue about LGBT issues.

Ava Sambriski, who attended the event, said drag shows are valuable for affecting prejudices around the LGBT community.

The performers in attendance were Queen Bee Ho, Adriana, April Fresh, Cinnamon Laroche, Brittany, and Karrissa. In the words of Rachel House, the organizer of the event, “Don’t delay, slay!”
