SG Senators passed a special request for Homecoming Committee’s comedy show, and President Hailey Guerra announced her choice for Vice President during Senate’s first meeting of the Fall Aug 24.

Homecoming’s funding request, SB-15SB-2889, called for a $120,000 budget for its annual comedy show. The measure was passed in an 11-0-7 vote after Senate tabled the bill over the Summer.

Last fiscal year, Homecoming’s comedy show was zero-funded because Homecoming Committee had no guarantee the production would in fact take place, according to former Treasurer Morgan Wolf.

President Guerra announced that the Vice President position may be filled by current Chief of Staff Jordan Wilson, after former President Shomari Gloster stepped down July 28. The Government Oversight Committee (GOC) will meet next week to approve or deny Guerra’s choice, and would need to receive final approval by the Senate.

Senate also recognized a number of students seeking appointment for Senate seats, with 12 open seats remaining for Fall term.

Senate Committees will meet Aug. 31, and the Senate floor will open again on Sept. 14, after the Labor Day holiday.

Spinnaker will update this brief with more detail.
