Slideshow: Student injured during accident

An accident occurred about 5:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at the crosswalk connecting Osprey Fountains with the interior campus. A student was allegedly struck by a black Ford F250 4×4, according to sources familiar with the matter. The student was transported to a local hospital. UPD and the suspect, who was cited, refused to comment further to the Spinnaker. The Spinnaker will be actively following the developments and will release the police report once it become available.

Update: Maser did not lose consciousness after he was struck by the Ford, said Josh Freedman, Maser’s roommate. He was on his skateboard while he was crossing the road, and was blindsided, Freedman said. He also said Maser flew about 15 feet after the impact.

Update: UNF student Miriah Stieglitz was driving behind the Ford 250 that struck Maser when she observed the truck driving between 30 and 40 mph without slowing down before reaching the crosswalk. She also said there was no swerving or revving of the engine. She confirmed that Maser flew about 10 to 15 feet after the impact. She then said both she and the truck stopped. She approached as he was laying face down on UNF Drive, and said she stayed with him until UPD arrived about 5 minutes later. She also said the ambulance was there within 10 minutes.

Update: As of 10 a.m. Tuesday morning UNF student Josh Maser has been discharged from St. Lukes Hospital, according to a hospital administrator.

Update: The Spinnaker spelled Josh Freedman’s name wrong in the previous update.
