Starting the semester off strong

With a new semester comes new opportunities for students. That could be anything from raising your GPA, to meeting new people and getting out of your comfort zone.

The director of ACE, Kellie Woodle, had some advice to give students to start the semester strong.

She discussed how half the battle for students is going to class. The decline of a student’s grade often begins with their lack of class attendance.

Beyond going to class, Woodle suggested students meet with their professor during office hours.

“Meeting your professor during office hours helps build a relationship with your professor, even if you do not have a specific question,” Woodle said.

She also mentioned meeting with your academic advisor, who can point you in the right direction for extra help such as tutoring and more.

Throughout the interview, Woodle discussed extracurricular activities that she recommends students partake in, such as sports, clubs, sororities and fraternities.

Woodle believes that if students manage their time well, they can enrich their time at UNF with experiences they can take with them well into the future.

“Balance is key,” she said.

She also stated that if students decide to do extracurricular activities, they do things that not only interest them, but help build their resume. For example, if you are a business major, join a business fraternity or sorority. This yields the opportunity to develop connections with people of the same background.

The most important thing to remember is that the tassel is worth the hassle. Putting the work in now can set you up for the life you’ve always dreamed of.
