The Field House opened up for student use at its grand reopening on Oct. 5.

The facility features three convertible courts with drop-down curtain partitions to separate games in play. The Field House also includes classroom space which can also be reserved for events.

Faculty, staff and students surrounded the heads of UNF Student Government who opened the facility with a ribbon cutting. President Hailey Guerra, who said she is excited to have the field house, held the scissors while Vice President Jordan Wilson kept the ribbon in place.

According to Guerra, the field house was an ideal investment.

“We felt like more students could better utilize the field house for recreational sports other than using the UNF Aquatic Center,” Guerra said.

Guerra said the former Aquatic Center had a fault that would’ve been more expensive to fix than renovating a fieldhouse for intramural and recreational sports.

Others at the facility’s grand reopening said that the field house will give non-athlete students more access to a recreational space while student athletes use the arena for practice.

Men’s basketball head coach Matthew Driscoll said many students who wanted to use the arena were limited due to the hours that the arena was open to the public.

“It was unfortunate for our students, but it is what it is,” Driscoll said. “The university continues to have great direction and great understanding of the students. The students are really important and I think the field house is a great thing to have.”

The field house is open every day, with Monday-Thursday evenings reserved for intramural play. To see the exact hours of operation for the field house, click here.
