Floyd Hurst, 66, passed away Feb. 16 at his home in Ormond Beach, Fla. with his family by his side.
Hurst, who served as the University Controller, was diagnosed July 2011 with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Hurst had received several awards from Student Affairs and the International Center for exemplary work ethics.
“Everyone loved him, and he loved the University,” said Associate Controller Valerie Stevenson. “One of the things he loved was helping work with our international students.
A memorial service is scheduled on campus March 10 in his honor.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Floyd’s passing. I started my career working at SUNY with Floyd, and later worked with him at Oracle. He was a good friend and mentor, always willing to take time to help sove a problem, or make you laugh. Floyd accomplished many things during his life, building out SUNY’s business Systems, raising 8 children with Karen, being an extremely successful soccer coach at La Salle, and his work as Controller at the University. He was a great man and he will be missed by everyone. May god bring his family comfort, and ease his pain.
