Women’s Basketball

Women’s Basketball closed the regular season with a 65-51 loss to cross-town rival Jacksonville University at Historic Swisher Gym Feb. 27. Poor three-point shooting and missed free throws led to the Osprey loss.

In the first quarter, UNF started slow and fell behind 19-9 before closing the gap to within three for a 30-27 halftime score. In the third, the Ospreys cut it to one point behind guard Claire Ioannidis’ three-pointer. Late in the third, the Dolphins made a run behind Briona Brown and 13 free throws to seal the victory.

Ioannidis finished with 19 points, while teammates Sierra Sheppard and Maiya Rumph both tallied 10 points.

UNF will be the sixth seed in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament and face USC Upstate at Upstate on March 4.

Softball in the Citrus Classic

The Softball team was victorious in two of their five games this weekend in The Disney Citrus Classic in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

To open the tournament, the team rallied back to defeat Bryant 8-7 after battling back and forth early. A three-run home run by Osprey Katie Mandigo helped close the gap to 7-5 in the bottom of the second. Shelby Duncan hit a 2-RBI single in the sixth to win the game.

UNF was shut-out 3-0 by Fordham in the second game of their double-header.

On the second day, the Ospreys lost both games of their doubleheader. They fell to East Carolina 7-3 and Notre Dame 8-4.

A three-run home run by East Carolina in the seventh inning sealed game one. In game two, Notre Dame dominated the Ospreys and never gave up the lead.

In the final game, UNF’s defense helped seal a 2-1 victory over Penn State. In the first, the Ospreys took 2-0 lead and never looked back.

UNF will have its home opener against UCF at the UNF Softball Complex on March 2.
