The University of North Florida’s women’s basketball team took on USC Upstate on the road Saturday Jan. 31 and lost 61-49 against the Spartans.

The game was played in the G. B. Hodge Center in Spartanburg, S.C.  and marked the end of the first half of Atlantic Sun Conference play for the lady Ospreys.

Although the defense played harder in the second half, UNF was unable to recover after trailing 15 points leading into half time.

Bailey Florin, UNF sophomore guard, led the team by putting up 14 points, while Paulina Zaveckaite and Destinee Smith each contributed 11 points. Zaveckaite also had nine rebounds for the night, which kept the defense strong.

The team will return to Jacksonville now and prepare for the River City Rumble next Saturday, Feb. 7.  Tip-off against crosstown-rivals, the Jacksonville University Dolphins, will be at 2 p.m. in the UNF Arena.
