UNF women’s tennis is headed into its conference schedule on a high note after winning its last four matches, including its 7-0 sweep of Jacksonville University March 26.

The day before the match against JU, the team hosted Big East school West Virginia. The Ospreys showed that they were not a team to mess with as they beat the Mountaineers 7-0, the first of two consecutive sweeps.

UNF headed into its next match against cross-town rival JU looking to extend its winning streak.

After originally being scheduled for March 24, rain forced the matchup between UNF and JU to March 26. The Ospreys showed they were more than ready in possibly the final match between the two programs. UNF easily won all five singles matches in just two sets, as the Dolphins failed to offer up much of a fight.

“It was more of a great thing for the program to see than it was for just me,” coach Audra Cohen said. “[The girls] understand just how good they are this year.”

A four-match win-streak swings momentum in favor of the Ospreys heading into their final six matches, all of which are against conference opponents. UNF will travel to Florida Gulf Coast March 29 for a noon match before concluding the week March 31 at Stetson.

For Cohen, the matchup against FGCU is a big one, and there’s plenty of reasons to be excited about it.

“I’ve got seven girls that all belong in a starting lineup,” Audra said. “I’ve got to decide who I’m going to play and when. We can really play match-ups a little bit more in that sixth position.”
