After starting the season 5-2, the UNF men’s team is looking to bounce back because it dropped two straight matches to in-state schools.
UNF will host Florida A&M University March 4 at noon at the UNF tennis complex. The team lost to the University of Miami Feb. 26 and the University of South Florida Feb. 24.
In its loss to USF, UNF gained a point in the doubles matches, but only got two points from singles matches on its way to a 5-4 loss. Key losses for the Ospreys were at the No. 1 singles match, where Moritz Buerchner lost to Yannick Yoshizawa two sets to one (6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (4)). UNF also dropped the No. 2 singles match as USF’s Wael Kilani defeated Daniel Sotomarino two sets to none (6-4, 6-2).
UNF continued to struggle against UM, and dropped the match to the No. 32 Hurricanes, 5-2. Once again, the Ospreys managed to grab the doubles points but were unable to close out the match in the singles matches. The lone win for the Ospreys in the singles matches was from Julien Belair in the No. 4 match. Belair defeated Henrique Tsukamato two sets to one (4-6, 7-6 (10-4), 10-3). UNF lost the other five matches as UM cruised to the win.
The upcoming match against FAMU will be the first of seven straight home matches for the Ospreys. FAMU is currently 7-5 and is coming off of two wins over Atlantic Sun opponents.
