BOT approves wellness fee increase

The UNF Board of Trustees approved a $3 per credit hour increase in student fees that would pay for a new wellness center, April 29

The school had to seek special permission to levy the fee, because a $3 per credit hour increase is far above the wellness fee cap.

Currently the legislation is in proviso and, though the governor hasn’t signed the bill, it seems to be green-lighted, said SG president

John Barnes.

The lobbying process has taken vice president of governmental affairs Janet Owen almost two months, partially due to a lawsuit between the state legislature and the Board of Governors.

Though students will foot most of the bill for the new center, athletic director Lee Moon has been working to alleviate some of the burden for students.

Moon has doubled fundraising efforts, Delaney said.

The $39 million project, dubbed UNF Varsity Village, will be constructed in two to three phases. The plan also calls for renovation and maintenance of current facilities. UNF has already begun some such renovation.
