Swooped-up laptop

A non-UNF student reported her laptop missing from her car after attending an on-campus event.

On Feb. 2, the victim parked her car in Lot 18 around 6:50 p.m. and returned around 8:50 p.m. According to the police report, the victim left the laptop in the car’s front passenger seat with the doors locked, but the front passenger window was open.

The laptop is a silver Macbook Pro with a pink case valued at $1,100. The victim was not able to provide a serial number for the item, and confirmed it was the only thing stolen.

The police report states there were no signs of forced entry and the suspect(s) took the laptop through the open car window.

The case is not cleared and there will be patrol follow-up.

Classroom Gas Leak

Gas smells were noticed by a professor in Skinner-Jones Hall on Feb. 3, prompting an alert to Physical Facilities. In an adjacent classroom, approximately six gas lines were left in the “open” position.

The Chair of the Physics Department, James Gardner, stated the classroom was originally used as a chemistry lab area. Now the classroom is strictly used for physics studies, and Gardner advised UNFPD that the gas lines are not used as a part of the studies.

The police report says it is unknown who turned the gas lines on or why. A key audit was conducted, and the information report is closed.
