Florida voter’s registration has been extended to Tuesday, Oct. 18, according to CNN.
The Florida Democratic Party and other political groups pushed for the deadline to be extended, despite Florida Governor Rick Scott saying that he had no intention of extending it because people have had plenty of time to register.
This change in deadline was made to give last-minute sign-ups and those who were affected by Hurricane Matthew ample time to register before the November elections.

Florida voter’s registration has been extended from today to 5 p.m. tomorrow Oct. 12, and could be extended further, according to CNN.
The deadline was pushed back due to the recent impact of Hurricane Matthew and is designed to give those who have not registered and were mandated to evacuate a little extra time to do so.
The hearing on extending the deadline past Wednesday will be held tomorrow.
Here is what you need to know to make sure your voice is heard in this year’s election.
To register:
You can register to vote by mail or in person. Registration has to be done by Oct. 11. Places to register are at the driver licenses offices, public libraries and the tax collector offices. There will also be people on campus to help with the registration process.
You can also register to vote online and mail your forms in to any County Supervisor of Elections office. The closest one is Duval, at 105 East Monroe Street Jacksonville, FL 32202. The registration must be postmarked by Oct. 11.
Hitting the polls:
To vote at the polls, a current and valid photo ID and a signature is required.
Acceptable forms of ID include:
- Florida driver license
- United States Passport
- Debit or credit card
- Military Identification
- Student Identification
Can’t vote in person?
If you can’t make it to your precinct, you can cast your vote through the mail using an absentee ballot.
An absentee ballot is a form for if you are unable to reach your polling area for any reason.
To get an absentee ballot, contact your Supervisor of Elections office in the county where you registered to vote.
This request can be made in person, by mail, via telephone or online. If you are unable to request the ballot yourself, a legal guardian or immediate family will be able to.
When requesting the ballot, you need to include your name, permanent home address, and date of birth.
If someone else is requesting the ballot, they also have to disclose their name, relationship to the voter, driver’s license number, and a signature if it is a written request.
The request for the ballot must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. Nov. 2 to the Supervisor of Elections Office.
The filled in ballot needs to be mailed or delivered in person to the Supervisor of Elections office by 7 p.m. on election day, Nov. 8.
Want to go early?
Locations and times of early voting sites will be released 30 days before the election.
Sites will open 10 days prior and close three days before the election, and are usually located in places like public libraries.
Election Day
The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 8. For your location, check your voter information card. The closest one to campus is Kernan Blvd Baptist Church.
