As Hurricane Irma approaches Florida’s coast, students should be ready to evacuate. The UNF Crisis Management Team is monitoring the Category 5 storm.

Mayor Lenny Curry declared mandatory evacuations for Zones A and B Friday morning.

UNF isn’t in an evacuation zone, but it’s close. Jacksonville has six zones: A, B, C, D, E, and F. Zone A is the first zone to be evacuated because the area is a high risk to any major storm. As the storm intensifies, zones B-E will be next to evacuate. Zone F evacuates depending on areas likely to flood due to rainfall, or any other hazardous concerns.

During Hurricane Matthew last year, 270 students were relocated to the Fountains. University buildings are equipped with directories with details on where to go during emergency evacuations. UNF President John Delaney has the authority to close all parts or portions on campus.

Students, faculty and staff will receive calls, emails, and text messages on important updates about Hurricane Irma.
