The UNF swimming and diving team opened its season Nov. 7 and 8 with a pair of wins against North Carolina A&T University and Campbell University.

North Carolina A&T

Against NC A&T Nov. 7, UNF came through with a 95-59 win at the UNF Aquatic Center. The Ospreys finished the day with a first-place finish in every event.

“I thought they did a great job today,” UNF head swimming and diving coach Beth Harrell said. “Some of them swam in events they weren’t used to, and I think they responded well. Overall, it was a strong performance.”

Freshman Gala Poon debuted with the fastest time in two events. In her lone individual event, Poon’s time of 29.26 seconds in the 50-back put her ahead of the next- fastest swimmer, junior Dana Constantino, who swam the event in 30.09.

Poon also had the fastest time in the 400-medley relay along with junior Kristin Pike, senior Caroline Poling and sophomore LynAnn Nelson with a time of 4:04.60.

Poling also had two top times, taking first in the 50-butterfly (26.96) along with her top showing in the 400-medley relay. Nelson tallied a career-best time in the 50-free, clocking in at 25.01 to take first place. Freshman Amanda Anderson took the top spot in the 100-individual medley with a time of 1:04.42.

Campbell University

UNF traveled to Campbell University Nov. 8 and defeated the Camels 138-124. The Ospreys finished first in eight of the 14 events in what was their sixth-straight dual meet win over Campbell.

Nelson led the Ospreys with four first-place finishes, including individual wins in the 200-free (1:56.61), 100-free (54.57) and 500-free (5:11.84). Nelson also teamed up with Shaw, Pike and Poling to finish first in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:52.51.

Poling captured first-place finishes in the 100-back (1:00.52) and 100-fly (59.56), while sophomore Patricia Lanoue was UNF’s top finisher in the 200-fly with a time of 2:15.54.

Sophomore Sara Taylor rounded out the top finishes for the Ospreys, picking up her first career first-place showing with a time of 10:59.01 in the 1000-free.

The Ospreys will travel to Greensboro, N.C, Nov. 20 for a rematch against North Carolina A&T.
