Ospreys, it’s time to head south as snow might be coming to UNF early Wednesday morning.  According to the Weather Channel, tomorrow’s temperature will reach as low as 29 degrees Fahrenheit. There is also a 100 percent chance of rain. These cold temperatures coupled with freezing rain conditions should cause snow flurries to make their way to Jacksonville.

Wednesday will be the first winter storm watch issued by the National Weather Service office in Jacksonville in almost four years, according to the Weather Channel.

Ice accumulation of one-tenth to one-quarter inch may also happen throughout Jacksonville tomorrow. This could be that some bridges could close if enough ice accumulates on the roads. The most likely bridge to close is the Dames Point Bridge, as it is almost 17 stories high.

The last time Jacksonville experienced snow flurries was back in Jan. 2016, however it wasn’t as cold or rainy.

In UNF’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, it covers natural disasters from hurricanes to earthquakes, but there is no mention of snow. It’s unlikely any classes will be cancelled due to cold weather or icy conditions.

The cold temperatures are expected to go even lower this week, and won’t rise back up until Monday, right in time for classes to start.
