Breaking News: Suspicious package found at student union a false alarm

UPD responded to a call Tuesday Jan. 18 concerning a suspicious package found on the third floor of the East building of the Student Union.

Lieutenant Tammy Oliver said UPD got the call a little before 2 p.m. Oliver said the contents of the suspicious package included ink pens. UPD got the call because members of Student Government were unaware that they would be getting a package in the mail. Oliver said there were markings on the box, including Chinese symbols that made the box look suspicious.

“They weren’t expecting a package or at least they didn’t think they were,” Oliver said.

UPD initially taped off the entire outside of the Student Union and began evacuating before they reduced the taped zone to the third floor of the East building.
