The month of June was chosen to be Pride Month to pay homage to the Stonewall riots that took place at the end of June in 1969. Today, many pride events are held during the month of June to recognize and celebrate those who are apart of the LGBTQ community.

Listed below are a few events that are taking place in Jacksonville:

• UNF Drag Queen story hour: On Tuesday, June 25 from 12 p.m – 1 p.m, the UNF LGBT Resource Center is hosting a Drag Queen story hour during Summer B kickoff. It will be held on the first floor of the Thomas G. Carpenter Library.  The story hour will feature local performer, BeBe Deluxe, and a discussion held by Dr. Mandi Barringer, an Associate Professor of Sociology.
• UNF LGBT lunch hour: On Thursday, June 27 from 12 p.m – 1.pm, the UNF LGBT Resource Center will be hosting a “lunch hour”, where you can eat with the resource center staff. Make sure to pack your own lunch and be ready to chat.
• Family Friendly Park Date: On Saturday, June 29, Parenting with Pride North Florida is hosting a park play date at 11:00 a.m in Boone Park. There will be snacks, face painting and a “bubble dance party” hosted by Mrs. Bubbles. The event is free and open to all.
