Fun Fact: In his 20s, Beto O’Rourke was part of a punk rock band in El Paso called Foss. 

One of the most hyped up candidates prior to joining the race, O’Rourke gained a national following after challenging Ted Cruz for his Texas Senate seat back in 2018. O’Rourke, a native of El Paso, Texas, has centered much of his campaign around immigration reform. O’Rourke has referred to El Paso as the “Ellis Island of the Americas,” and the border town has found itself at the center of the border security debate that has the country.

Beto’s campaign website has laid out his positions on immigration and several other issues such as national security, healthcare and climate change. O’Rourke has also amassed quite a large checkbook, with his campaign reporting $9.4 million dollars raised in the first quarter of 2019.
