Free (or discounted) services for students

Courtney Green and Jessica Volz

Being a college student has its perks. Check out these free — or discounted — services for uni students.

Microsoft Office 360

Oh, the dread — a professor has requested that you submit an assignment in a Microsoft Word document only and you don’t have the Office Suite to get the job done. Maybe you don’t even have time to make it to the library to use a school computer in order to get the job done. Never fear — the Microsoft Office Suite is provided to you for free as long as you are a student. That includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.

You can get the download here. Follow the instructions on the site and then magically find college life be made a little easier.

The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Jacksonville Business Journal

Crave the news that isn’t UNF Spinnaker? We sure hope not, but if that’s the case, students and faculty have access to these top news dispensaries. You can access them through the Events and News tab in MyWings. Clicking the links will send you to a set-up page that prompts you to enter your student email and graduation year.

Just remember: they won’t have the Howard the Duck content we’ve got.

Apple Store

Psst. The Education Store on Apple’s site provides students with the opportunity to save up to $200 depending on the item you’re looking to purchase. Check it out here.

Adobe

Need to convert a Word document into a PDF but don’t want to risk getting a virus from one of those shady backdoor websites? Students can access Adobe programs for free in the UNF Thomas G. Carpenter Library. While this might be less dazzling than those listed above because you can’t access it on a personal computer, Adobe is an expensive program to purchase a full subscription of. Save the dollars and hit up Tommy G’s.

UNF Virtual Lab

It’s magic; access a myriad of software programs without being on a school computer. Among the apps provided is the classic Paint, along with Minitab 19, Oxygen XML Editor 180, SAS 94 English, Visio 2016, and MatLab. You can access it through MyWings under the Student Tools tab. You can also access it by following this link.
