Interviews for seven potential new provosts are set to be conducted April 24 and April 27 in the President’s Conference Room via video feed. There are currently 108 total applicants on file for the position.

The provost acts as chief academic officer for UNF, and represents the academic division to the President’s council and Board of Trustees. This position requires oversight in operations related to budget planning, academic leadership, personnel and curriculum affairs according to a university press release.

Former Provost Dr. Mark Workman stepped down from the position the day after his spring commencement speech on April 26, 2013.

Dr. Earle Traynham has acted as interim provost since May 3, 2013. Traynham began working as an assistant professor in 1973 and was the Dean of the Coggin College of Business from 1994 to 2003.

Traynham agreed to come out of retirement to fill the position temporarily, after the request was made by UNF President John Delaney. Initial estimates placed the Interim in office for 12 to 15 months, however this May will mark nearly 25 months since Traynham stepped in.

Spinnaker will update with an in-depth story when a new provost is selected.
