On any given day you can see sports players doing bizarre routines. From LeBron’s tame powder-toss at the beginning of an NBA game, to the more extreme urine rituals of MLB player Moises Alou, and UFC fighter Lyoto Machida, the fact is, people involved in sports will do whatever is possible to get the win. UNF would add six more runs, and a total 17 hits for the game. The team totaled 32 runs in the three game series, and grabbed three wins against NKU (6-30, 1-11 A-sun) over the weekend.
“That’s one thing we’ve worked on as a team, being very patient and waiting for a pitch that you can work on,” Roberson said. “You just gotta’ keep battling off the bad pitches until you get one you can handle and drive it somewhere.”
“Every pitcher struggles a little bit in the first inning,” Incinelli said. “Coach Smoke has his inevitable two, you know. The first inning, you’re going to give up two 2 runs and if you can hold it to one or none, that’s awesome. As a starting pitcher, from there you start cruising.”
Weeks, who attended Clay High School in Green Cove Springs, finished the game 4-for-5. Weeks notched all four elements of the cycle with a home run (4), a triple, a double and a single. He also had two runs scored and a team-best five RBI.
The trend of big wins and close loses continued for the team over spring break. Despite UNF traveling to party destinations over the break, they weren’t there for a good time.
After starting the year winning every series it played, the UNF baseball team finally dropped a weekend series March 8-10.
In the top of the tenth inning UNF answered UF’s ninth by scoring a run. UNF’s Corey Bass hit a
double to left center field that scored Alex Bacon and gave UNF a 7-6 lead. The Ospreys were able to
hold the Gators scoreless in the bottom of the tenth to come away with the win.
In their first road game this season, the Ospreys capitalized on BCU’s mistakes and played good defense to keep the Wildcats at bay and pick up the win following a 2-1 series win against West Virginia.
