Critics have had a field day with the UNF men's basketball team’s inability to shoot free throws and close out tight games. But on senior night, Feb. 20, against an outmatched Kennesaw State (8–20, 6–12 A-Sun), the Ospreys (11–18, 8–10 A-Sun) fought through three overtimes to secure a 90-88 win over the Owls.
UNF led by as many as 11 points late in the second half however, a late run by the Belmont Bruins resulted in a UNF loss, 69-67, Feb. 5 inside the UNF Arena.
Sean Dale, the Atlantic Sun men’s golf Player of the Year and leader of the UNF men’s golf team, decided to redshirt the 2011 season to focus on academics. It got me thinking about the emphasis we as fans put on the “student” part of the term “student-athlete.”
