Valentine’s Day is a holiday centered around love. A time for couples to show how much they care and appreciate one another. I personally can’t stand it: the corny teddy bears, the cheap chocolates, everything being drenched in either red or pink. Even the music gets extra cheesy. There’s no escaping it. So, to combat this, I picked a couple of my favorite anti-love songs.

“w-w-w-w-w” by Hemlocke Springs
First on this list is “w-w-w-w-w” by Hemlocke Springs. This song feels something akin to a warning. Partially because of the sirens in the beginning, but also because of the way she sings.
The beat has prominent drums and kicks that fit nicely with the rather dark elements of the song. The main theme of this song is being better off without a man. It goes on to say that there’s basically nothing worse than having to take care of a man for the rest of your life.
Not only is this song incredibly catchy, but it also just speaks to me as a single person. My favorite lyric from “w-w-w-w-w” by Hemlocke Springs is “Can’t even fathom waking up the man on Sunday morning, cooking him some breakfast, brewing coffee.”
“I Love It” by Icona Pop
Next on the list is the extremely popular “I Love It” by Icona Pop, featuring Charli XCX. This song is well-loved, all for good reasons.
From the loud, electronic beat to the fun, iconic lyrics. The entirety of the song feels like an unforgettable night out. The lyrics describe destroying things and not caring about the consequences.
This song exudes freedom, not being tied down by anything or anyone. It reminds me that I don’t have to be tied down either. My favorite lyric from “I Love It” by Icona Pop, featuring Charli XCX,

is “You want me down on Earth, but I am up in space.”
“Manchild” by Sabrina Carpenter
Last on the list is “Manchild” by Sabrina Carpenter. This song has only grown in popularity since its release. The pop beat mixed with catchy and relatable lyrics has me, and many others, coming back for more.
The theme of the song is growing tired of attracting lackluster men. Even the title of the song exudes clear disdain. I find this song to be very fun and upbeat, while also holding a bit of truth in the lyrics. My favorite lyric from “Manchild” by Sabrina Carpenter is “If I’m not there, it won’t get done, I choose to blame your mom.”
