Women’s volleyball stays strong against USC Upstate

The UNF women’s volleyball team scored a 3-2 victory against University of South Carolina (USC) Upstate on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the UNF Arena. The Lady Ospreys have been playing well over the past few weeks with their recent 3-1 victory over conference rivals Kennesaw State University on Friday, Oct. 17 and 3-1 victory against Bethune-Cookman University on Tuesday, Oct. 14.

“Our team has been playing well the last few weeks,” Head Coach Steve Loeswick said. “It was really nice to get in front of our home crowd and finish two close matches this weekend.”

Senior Cari Whitmire recorded her third career 30+ dig match on Saturday night, setting a new career-high for a total of 32 digs in one match.

“She’s been doing very well the past month,” Loeswick said in response to Whitmire’s efforts on the floor. “We’ve expected her to make those type of plays and Cari’s taken it upon herself to make sure it happens.”

The Ospreys hit .184 and recorded an impressive 71 kills and 110 digs for the evening. Courtney Miller, Abby Fesl and Carinne Turner all had double-doubles against the USC Upstate Spartans.

The Lady Ospreys will compete in their final non-conference match for the season on Tuesday, Oct. 21 against the Florida A&M University Rattlers in Tallahassee, Fla.
