On Oct. 23, the Osprey volleyball team (16-8 overall, 3-5 A-Sun) went back and forth with the Dolphins (8-12 overall, 5-3 A-Sun), but fell short with a 3-2 loss at Jacksonville’s Swisher Gym. UNF volleyball is now fifth in the Atlantic Sun conference.
UNF women’s soccer (4-11-1 overall, 2-4-1 A-Sun) fell to the Dolphins (6-7-2 overall, 4-2-1 A-Sun) at JU’s Southern Oak Stadium 2-1.
Dolphins’ junior Cassie Elmore and senior forward Marie Weckhurst scored goals in the 23rd and 52nd minutes, respectively. Ospreys’ junior defender Gabrielle Liquori scored the only goal for UNF at the 60-minute mark.
Despite the loss, the Ospreys clinched the sixth and final spot in the Atlantic Sun Conference women’s soccer tournament after a USC Upstate loss to Kennesaw State.
UNF will face the Dolphins again in the first round at Jacksonville’s Southern Oak Stadium at 7 p.m. on Oct. 30.
On Oct. 24, UNF men’s soccer (7-5-1 overall, 3-0-1 A-Sun) closed out the weekend with a 1-0 victory over Jacksonville (3-10-1 overall, 1-4 A-Sun), marking the first time UNF has defeated the Dolphins in consecutive seasons.
UNF senior midfielder Drew Spragg scored the lone goal for the Ospreys, assisted by junior Jay Bolt. Senior goalkeeper Kyle Nasta finished with 3 saves, becoming the all-time saves leader (141) in UNF’s D-1 history. There were 7 yellow cards booked between both teams in the rivalry matchup.
Next, UNF men’s soccer will face Florida Atlantic on the road on Oct. 28 before returning home for their final game of the regular season on Oct. 31 against USC Upstate at Hodges Stadium. UNF is also guaranteed a home game in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament which begins Nov. 6.
