Sterijevski’s hot hitting leads Wildcats over Ospreys

Senior Nate Sterijevski’s multi-hit two RBI game fueled Bethune-Cookman in a 6-2 win over the Ospreys.

After walking the first two batters to start the game, Freshman Logan Clayton allowed an RBI double to right center by  Sterijevski as the Wildcats grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first.

The Ospreys quickly countered with a sac fly RBI by Junior Tanner Murphy to tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.

Pitching was the keyword for the meat of the game as both sides were held scoreless from the second inning through the sixth.

Sterijevski broke the tie with an RBI single to right in the top of the seventh for a 2-1 Wildcats lead. The Wildcats wouldn’t let up as Junior Over Torres laced an RBI single to right that scored two and a triple by Redshirt-Senior Brandon Wilkes pushed the lead to 5-1. Wilkes stole home and the Wildcats padded their lead to 6-1.

UNF Baseball Manager Tim Parenton talked about the Wildcats’ five run seventh inning.

“They hit the ball pretty well against Ethan(Michaelis) and that’s one of the things he’s been struggling with but he’ll be fine before the year is out,” Parenton said.

Michaelis was tagged with the loss after pitching two thirds of an inning, allowing five runs (three earned) annd five hits.

The Ospreys began to chip away at the lead in the top of the seventh as Redshirt-Senior Wes Weeks drove in a run on an RBI single to center to cut the lead to 6-2.

The lead was too much to overcome as the Wildcats won, 6-2.

Worth Noting

The loss drops UNF to 16-15 (2-4 ASUN) and the win improves BCU to 10-20 (3-6 MEAC).

Redshirt-Junior Hunter Bowling was solid in relief as he hurled two and a third scoreless innings while punching out three.
