Tropical Storm Dorian expected to head towards Florida

Heydi Ortiz, Managing Editor

It’s still hurricane season and now Tropical Storm Dorian is expected to head near Florida and past the Eastern Caribbean on Labor Day weekend. Hurricane watches have been issued for both Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Dorian is going at sustained winds of up to 50 mph.

It’s not known whether or not the storm will have a big impact on Jacksonville but it’s never a bad idea to be prepared in the midst of an emergency.

Make sure your preparedness kit is complete with plenty of water, non-perishable food,  medications, plenty of batteries, a flashlight and a first aid kit. It’s also important to keep a watchful eye out as the storm develops and know where your evacuation zones are.

Spinnaker will keep you updated as more information unfolds.
