After scoring one goal in the first half, the North Florida Ospreys Women’s Soccer team scored three unanswered goals in the second half to cement a 4-0 win against the South Carolina State Bulldogs.

Thais Reiss struck first for the Ospreys in the 16th minute off an assist from Karina Bermudez for the 1-0 lead that they eventually took into halftime.

UNF Women’s Soccer Head Coach Eric Faulconer mentioned how the team can improve after their eight offsides calls in the first half that hindered them from potential goals.

“It’s about timing, sometimes the ball needs to be played a little bit earlier by the midfield and sometimes the forward needs to hold on the run,” Faulconer said. “It’s something we need to get better at because we had a few opportunities where we could have maybe put it in a little bit quicker.”

After halftime, the Ospreys attack cleaned up shop to secure the win. After a near miss in the 50th minute by Devyn Encalada, UNF scored three goals in an eleven-minute span, including one by Leah Ferlin in the 75th that was assisted by Lisa Cedeno.

The Ospreys back line kept the Bulldogs on a tight leash as they only allowed one shot throughout the entire match.

Bermudez also scored off an Emma Voigt assist in the 78th minute and Chanelle Bubb scored the first goal, assisted by Bermudez, in her three- and-a-half year career in the 86th minute to seal the 4-0 win.

“It feels amazing. After three and a half years of being out, it just feels amazing,” Bubb said.

The win improves UNF to 6-3-1 and the loss drops the Bulldogs to 1-7-0.

The Ospreys begin conference play against the Liberty Flames on Sunday, September 29 at 1:00 p.m. at Hodges Stadium.
