Senate seat update: Delaney stays

Gov. Charlie Crist announced Aug. 28 Chief of Staff George LeMieux will be replacing Sen. Mel Martinez’s seat.

UNF President John Delaney was one of the candidates Gov. Crist had personally interviewed for the position.

LeMieux and Crist have a long history working together. Before gaining the position of chief of staff, LeMieux acted as the main driving force in Crist’s 2006 campaign, according to Politico.com.

Delaney could not be reached for comment, but the Spinnaker will continue providing updates.
