The Weekend Ahead: June 9 – 12

Take a break this weekend by getting to know what Jacksonville’s different communities have to offer, or adopt a pet you can binge-watch your favorite shows with.

Thursday, June 9: Seaside Community Yoga

What: Stretch out your stress and practice vinyasa yoga with Yoga Instructor Kristen Huth. Huth invites yogis of all levels to join her, and she has extra mats for those who do not have their own.

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Bull Memorial Park

Thursday, June 9: Sound Effects: Composing Women

What: A small group of chamber musicians, including Adjunct Professor of Flute Rhonda Cassano, performs pieces composed by women to complement the new “Confronting the Canvas: Women of Abstraction” exhibit. This program is free, but seating is limited.

When: 7-8:30 p.m.

Where: MOCA

Saturday, June 11: Girlfriend Connection Fair

What: Enjoy food, music, giveaways and raffles while getting to know Jacksonville’s vendors. According to the event’s Facebook page, the first 10 visitors will receive a free mystery gift. Everyone, including men and children, are welcome to attend this free event.

When: 12-4 p.m.

Where: Confetti’s Event Center (located in the Murray Hill neighborhood)

Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12: Bow Wow Meow Adoption Luau

What: Best Friends Animal Society, the Jacksonville Humane Society and Animal Care and Protective Services have teamed up to get loving pets into forever homes. The organizations have waived adoption fees for this event. Those who wish to adopt must bring a photo ID and purchase a rabies tag and heartworm prevention medicine.

When: Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m.

Where: The Jacksonville Humane Society and Animal Care and Protective Services
