The Weekend Ahead: July 7-11

Fourth of July Celebrations are over which leaves plenty of room for Ospreys to turn their attention to a big convention coming to campus.

Thursday, July 7 — Art and Ideas: Ethan Murrow

What: Discuss Ethan Murrow’s current MOCA installation and previous black and white artwork with the artist himself. Entrance is free, but seating is limited. Reserve a seat here.

When: 7-8:30 p.m.

Where: MOCA

Friday, July 8 — Rhythm of Fear, Yashira, Shadow Hunter and other bands perform at Rain dogs.

What: Rock out to music from Jacksonville’s sludge metal bands Rhythm of Fear, Yashira and Shadow Hunter as well as Ft. Lauderdale’s Ether and Tampa’s Meatwound. Tickets are $10 at the door.

When: 8 p.m.

Where: Rain dogs.

Saturday, July 9 — Time Lord Fest

What: Join fellow Whovians as they gather on campus to celebrate more than five decades of Doctor Who. Guests can expect a cosplay contest, celebrity guests (including British actor Colin Spaull), vendors and other excitement. Student tickets are $18 here or $25 at the door. General admission tickets are $25 here.

When: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Where: Adam W. Herbert University Center (located on the south side of campus near Crossings)

Saturday, July 9 — Explore Islam with your Muslim Neighbors

What: Get to know Muslims in Northeast Florida by learning about their traditions, cuisine and literature. Attendees should dress in business casual clothing and expect a tour of the center, a presentation on Muhammad, and a question and answer session. Entrance is free, but the center asks that guests RSVP here.

When: 7-8:30 p.m.

Where: Islamic Center of North East Florida (located on Saint Johns Bluff Road)
