UNF locations hosting World Cup festivities

It’s the week of the World Cup and locations all over campus are hosting a number of activities to drum up excitement for the 88-year-old tradition,  starting this week and lasting through July.

June 14 – July 7

The events start on Thursday, June 14, with a World Cup Kickoff party in the Game Room at 10:30 a.m. Students and soccer fanatics can fill out their World Cup Brackets to see who best predicted the results of the matches. There will also be viewing parties from Thursday, June 14 through Saturday, July 7.

June 19

There will be a juggling competition on the Student Union lawn for students to showcase their handling skill at 1 p.m.

June 27

The Osprey Cafe is hosting a World Cup-themed dinner on Wednesday, June 27, from 4:30 p.m.to 8 p.m., where students can enjoy an international dinner featuring some of the teams competing in this year’s World Cup.

July 2

Students will also have the opportunity to showcase their focus and skill at the Penalty Kick Competition at the Student Union Lawn on Monday, July 2, at 4 p.m.

July 10 – 11

The Boathouse will be having viewing parties and lunch specials on Tuesday, July 10 and Wednesday, July 11, at 2 p.m. for students to grab grub and cheer on their teams.

July 12

When students are stressed with classes, they unwind by gaming for hours on end. Students can channel those long-night experiences when the Game Room hosts a FIFA18 Video Game Tournament on Thursday, July 12, at 6 p.m.

July 13

The highlight of the festivities occurs on Friday, July 13, at 1 p.m. when students can compete in a three-on-three soccer tournament on the North Intramural Fields, in their own version of the World Cup.

July 15

The final World Cup on Sunday, July 15, at 10:30 a.m will be shown in the Game Room. Come to the viewing party of the World Cup Finals to see who takes home the gold World Cup Trophy.
